Cong to petition EC on ‘fake’ Mormugao voters

VASCO: The GPCC claimed that they would petition the EC as well as Chief Election Commission Goa, alleging that “bogus” and “fake” names have been included in the latest voters list of Mormugao constituency.
Congress also alleged that the Minister Milind Naik has been misusing govt machinery and power dept employees have been appointed as BLOs to harass the eligible voters from Baina and Desterro.
Addressing a press conference in Vasco, spokesperson Sankalp Amonkar claimed that during 2012 Assembly polls, Mormugao Constituency had 20,500 voters, out of which the about 1000 voters from Baina and Desterro were deleted after their houses were demolished by the state administration.
“To get their voting right, these voters from part number 22, 24, 25 of Mormugao constituency approached CEC, Goa on Jan 13, 2016 with the plea to include the names with new addresses so that they could get voting rights. Following directions from EC, the concerned Assistant Electoral Registration Officer issued   a general notice giving intimation about the deletion of names from  part numbers 22, 24, 25 and asked the voters to appear for hearing, however the hearing was held in strict manner and those who could not appear, their names were deleted,” Amonkar claimed.
He further added that “What actually surprised us was the new election roll having 20,500 voters, when the same had to be 19500, as the AERO had deleted about 1000 voters from Baina and Desterro area. When we thoroughly checked the election roll, we found that the 1000 plus new voters have been added from ward numbers 2,3 4,5 of MMC.  But what is more surprising to note is the fact that after the affected people whose names have been deleted filled their forms to get enrolled again with the new address, the BLOs appointed (most of them are new recruits of electricity department) by the AERO have been harassing the voters and have been threatening the owners with the idea that these people who have been displaced from Baina and Desterro should not get enrolled anywhere in Mormugao Constituency rolls,” he said.
