CHORAO: The Chodan-Madel gram sabha was adjourned for the second time on Sunday, after the villagers and self help group members reiterated their demand to transfer the panchayat secretary.
The villagers and the self help group members warned that they will not allow the gram sabha to be held till the new secretary takes charge.
It may be recalled that the gram sabha on February 16 was adjourned, after the villagers demanded to transfer Panchayat Secretary Rupesh Halankar. The villagers had claimed that the secretary failed to write a resolution of the self help group about serious and false allegation against the women.
On Sunday, Secretary Halankar while reading the minutes of the previous gram sabha said the last gram sabha was adjourned due to noisy scenes, to which the villagers got furious and objected saying that it was totally false, as the gram sabha was adjourned after they demanded to transfer the secretary.
Seeing the situation going out of control, Sarpanch Divya Usapkar summoned the police. However, the villagers continued with their demand and warned that they will not allow the gram sabha to be held until the new secretary takes charge. As the chaos continued, the gram sabha was adjourned.
Earlier, three self help groups submitted a memorandum to the Panchayat Director, Tiswadi BDO, North Goa MP Shripad Naik and Deputy Speaker Anant Shet demanding to transfer the secretary or to make alternate arrangement due to the election code of conduct.
