CALANGUTE: Despite being tested COVID positive, a Dubai-returned bride did not postpone the wedding ceremony which was scheduled on Monday in Cuchelim, Mapusa but the prompt action by the Deputy Collector Bardez Gurudas Tubki Desai prevented further spread of infection in the vicinity.
The bride from Candolim, Bardez had arrived in Goa from Dubai for the marriage ceremony on December 18, and she was tested COVID positive based on the RT-PCR test on December 23. She was directed for home isolation by the medical officers of the Candolim Primary Health Centre.

Instead of isolation and being COVID positive, the bride was supposed to perform the rituals at the Church in Cunchelim, at 4 pm and host a reception at Arpora, Nagoa at 7pm, at an open air venue. The entire event was supposed to be attended by over 500 friends and family members.
Deputy Collector Bardez acted based on the complaint filed by Dr Roshan Nazareth, Health Officer of Candolim PHC that despite being tested positive, the bride was going ahead with the ceremony that is against the State drafted COVID protocols.
Following the complaint, Deputy Collector Desai instructed the Mapusa and Calangute Police to keep strict vigil so that COVID protocol is strictly followed. Calangute Police sources informed that the said wedding ceremony was not held and all the COVID protocols were followed properly.
