After sifting through hundreds of photographs of lovable rescued
cats – as well as their rescue stories – the judges have selected Zara, whose
guardian is Namitha Nair of Goa, as one of the ten finalists in People for the
Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India’s first annual Cutest Rescued Cat
Alive contest.

Namitha adopted Zara from an animal shelter after learning
that Zara and her siblings had been found dumped in a garbage bin. “It’s been
two years and the connection I have with her is so deep that I decided to make
it forever and inked an image of hers on my wrist,” remarks Namitha.
“Zara is a lucky cat indeed, and she has returned the favour
of being rescued by bringing much love and joy into Namita’s life,” says PETA
India CEO Poorva Joshipura. “All rescued cats are already winners because their
lives were saved by people who love them for who they are,” she adds.
PETA India is running the contest to urge prospective
guardians to adopt a needy cat from the streets or an animal shelter instead of
buying kittens.
The lucky kitty who is named the Cutest Rescued Cat Alive
will receive veggie-shaped cat toys, a first-place certificate, and the
guardian will receive an autographed copy of PETA founder’s book ‘250 Things
You Can Do to Make Your Cat Adore You’.
