SANGUEM: Convenor of Sanguem Bachao Samiti Constancio Mascarenhas who also spearheads the current agitation against the proposed IIT project at Sanguem, charged the Pramod Sawant-led government with double standards for wanting to regularise illegal structures on government land for more than 30 years.

“The government is going all out to drive the farmers out from their farmlands and agricultural plantations in Cotarli village which they have been cultivating for generations together,” Mascarenhas asked.
“Sawant seems to be taking the Goans for granted and is literally out to destroy Goa forever,” he claimed.
The farmlands and agricultural properties at Cotarli village belong to the local farmers. How come the government can claim this farmland to belong to the Government based on Survey records which came into force only in 1971, opined Mascarenhas.
“The pristine farmlands at Cotarli village are protected, cultivated and enjoyed by the locals over decades together and this land basically belongs to the Comunidade,” claimed Mascarenhas.
