TCP dept inspection reveals illegal land filling in Colva

An inspection carried out by the Town and Country Planning department has revealed illegal filling of low lying land in Colva village on Friday.
The inspection was conducted by TCP planning assistant Bomkar, who told newsmen that whatever activity carried out on the land is totally illegal.
Bomkar said the TCP would issue a notice to the Colva police to ensure that no further land filling activity takes place on the vast plot of land.
Confirming that around 32 rooms have been erected in the low lying land, the TCP official has said that orders will be issued to the Colva Panchayat to stop further construction of rooms on the land in question.
“The debris deposited on the agricultural field is illegal. The activity carried out is in violation of the rules”, Bomkar added.
Today’s inspection was carried out by the TCP following a complaint lodged by the Colva Civic and Consumer Forum stating that land filling activity is being carried on land admeasuring 20,000 square metres.
Incidentally, a portion of the land is being filled up and is apparently being converted into a garden, as evident by the presence of coconut and other saplings, besides vegetation found on the land.
Incidentally, trenches were found dug on the land, and the Convenor of the Colva Forum Judith Almeida demanded strict action from the concerned government departments against the parties.
Almeida said the land filling activity was going on for some time, with the migrants engaged at the site distributing the peace of the neighbouring villagers.
She thanked Town Planner Rajesh Naik for promptly deputing his Planning Assistant to inspect the land in question and hoped the authorities would initiate necessary action against those involved in the land filling activity.
Almeida demanded that the authorities seal the entire area, saying no one has the right to disturb the eco system.
