Farmers of Sal, Bicholim, have expressed great displeasure over the department’s apathy in supplying them water after the Tillari water was stopped a month ago. The farmers now feel their crops could be destroyed if they are not given water on time.
About 200 farmers from Sal depend upon the Tillari waters for their farming. But for the last one month the water has been stopped due to repairs of the canal. “The waters of Tillari have been stopped and we are not even getting water from the Sal pumping station,” farmer Deelip Desai said.
“The water from Sal pumping station is supplied to Amthane dam and also Assonora water treatment plant. When this station was constructed an outlet was kept for water to be supplied to farmers too and we were assured that we would get the water. But now the situation is such that we are not getting water from the Tillari dam nor the pumping station,” Desai said.
Meanwhile a meeting of farmers was held with former Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal. The MLA has written to the PWD requesting that water be supplied to the farmers.
The farmers also warned that if they are not given water they would stop the pumping station which would lead to scarcity of water to the Assonora water treatment plant which supplyies water to Bardez taluka.
