PANJIM: The Excise Department officials in Goa have successfully intercepted and seized three significant consignments of illicit liquor across different locations in the State.
These operations reveal massive illegal liquor smuggling activities ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It also shows that the department is alert and cracking down on such activities through its relentless efforts.

The last consignment was intercepted at Patradevi check-post on Wednesday. Excise officials stopped a truck carrying bio-waste material and suspected they were hiding something due to the driver carrying duplicate tapal. On searching the excise staff found liquor and beer worth a staggering Rs 42.53 lakh. The driver of the truck was arrested.
Previously the Excise Department unearthed liquor stored at Dandevado-Chinchinim in Salcete. The Excise Department raid on the unauthorised premises resulted in the confiscation of 4,028.71 litres of liquor, approximately valued at Rs 12.9 lakh.
In the third such raid, the Ponda Excise Department raided a parked truck at Curti. Upon inspection, authorities uncovered a substantial quantity 3,742 litres of illicit liquor, with an estimated value of Rs 17.16 lakh. This operation exemplifies the department’s proactive stance in targeting clandestine liquor transportation networks.
These successive seizures highlight the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies to tackle the menace of illegal liquor trafficking in Goa ahead of the Lok Sabha 2024 elections.
