PANJIM: Following revelations that fake marriage certificates are being used to avail benefit under Goa government’s Griha Aadhar scheme, the Directorate of Women and Child Department has decided to recover the benefit from the rogue beneficiaries, once detected.
“If we find fake marriage certificates, we will initiate proceedings (against the beneficiaries) for recovery,” Director Sunil Masurkar said. An inquiry has already begun.
Herald, had exposed that fake marriage certificates are being used to claim monthly benefit of Rs 1,000. Such certificates, as confirmed by the Civil cum Sub Registrar, are not valid since they do were not registration under the Portuguese Law with his office.
Herald had also disclosed a few names who were issued the fake certificates which originated from the letter head of Noorani Masjid in Chimbel but the Masjid management has ruled out giving any such certificate. The certificates also had some glaring mistakes.
As per the official records, a total of 1,05,114 applications were received by the department for availing benefits under the Griha Aadhar as on date, of which 69,559 applications have been sanctioned, while 35,247 applications are pending scrutiny.
