PANJIM: The Congress party filed a complaint against Social Welfare Minister Subash Phal Desai for moving around from polling booth to booth influencing the voters of Sanguem constituency on the polling day on May 7.
In his complaint, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) vice president Sunil Kawthankar has stated that the Minister was seen moving around from booth to booth in Sanguem Assembly constituency influencing voters and skipping queues and even entering polling stations.
This happened in full view of the polling officers, a video of which had been posted on his Facebook page. The Minister also urged the voters to vote for BJP candidate in this particular post, which Kawthankar said, was a clear violation of the model code of conduct in force.
Reacting to the Minister’s statement that he had visited the polling booth after machines at EVMs at four different booths had development problems, Kawthankar said, “Is he (Phal Desai) a technician appointed by Election Commission; what right he has to enter the polling booth other than where he is going to cast his vote. In his post the Minister never said he had gone to rectify the EVM’s fault.”
Kawthankar has urged the Election Commission to initiate strict action against him for trying to influence and coerce the voters.
