MARGAO: Former Union minister Eduardo Faleiro has stressed that the medium of instruction at primary level should be either be in Konkani or Marathi.
He was speaking as the chief guest after releasing “Kaideachea Doryantlim Lharam”, a Konkani book written by Adv Bernard F D’Souza at a function held in Margao on Saturday evening.
Speaking further, Faleiro said, “It is incorrect to say that studying at the primary level in the local language impairs academic performance”.
“Konkani is state’s official language and Marathi is and has always been the literary language of large segment of our population. An important prerequisite in this regard is that schools should be equipped with qualified manpower. The textbooks need to be revised to make the elementary education a rewarding and enjoyable experience,” he said.
Konkani writers Brenda Menezes, Walter Menezes and Pandharinath Lotliker were the other dignitaries present.
