MAPUSA: Dempo Sports Club scored at will in the 4-0 demolishment of Goa Velha Sports Club in GFA’s Goa Professional League, round four football match, at Duler Stadium, here, on Thursday. The winners led 1-0 at half time.
Before the kick-off, a minute silence was observed for the departed soul of Ciabro Alemao, general secretary of Churchill Bros Sports Club.
After controlling the proceedings, The Golden Eagles surged ahead in the 20th minute. Gabriel Fernandes sent in a defence splitting through ball to Tolgay and the striker did not disappoint with his finishing.
Minutes later, Gabriel showed glimpses of his talent yet again when he set up Tolgay in a similar fashion. However, Goa Velha keeper Siddhesh Morje came up with a timely save but the ball fell to Gabriel, whose rasping drive hit the crossbar.
Post resumption, Goa Velha had a glorious opportunity to equalize after Oilex Oliveira played a quick one-two with Jayesh Kadam but the formers close ranger was blocked by keeper Kattimani.
Dempo doubled their lead in the 56th minute through a quick counter-attack which allowed Myron Fernandes to bulge the nylons from close as keeper Siddesh was left helpless even though he got his gloves on the ball, 2-0.
Subsequently, Holicharan Narzary rounded off the Goa Velha custodian but keeper Siddesh redeemed himself with an excellent save.
There was no denying Dempo their third goal of the evening in the 77th minute. Goa Velha defense was totally exhausted and Dempo left-wing back Fulgenco Cardozo swiftly moved from his own half, played a quick to Joy Ferrao and the sent in a perfect low cross to Holicharan for an easy tap in, 3-0.
Soon, Holicharan had his brace when he nodded in off a Joy delivery. Referee’s assistant Johnson D’Souza had initially raised his flag for an off-side but the decision was over ruled by match referee Tejas Nagvekar, much to the frustration of Goa Velha.
