Navelim Villagers Union defeated Carmona Sports Club 2-0 to cruise into the quarter-finals of Super Soccer inter-village tournament organised by United Club of Benaulim at St John the Baptist ground, Benaulim on Friday. There was no score at half time.
Navelim dominated the proceedings but could not score due to poor finishing in the first half.
At the other hand, Carmona did their best to search for an early goal but without much success as the rival defenders were alert in frustrating the attackers with neat tackles.
Changing over, Navelim put up a better display and repeatedly raided the Carmona citadel and found success in the 50th minute when striker Alvito Colaco bulged the net from close range off a cross from Vincent Colaco.
Spurred by the success, Navelim piled up pressure and tested the rival goalkeeper with forays and were soon rewarded when substitute Mohammed Rafi doubled the lead as he kicked the ball into the far corner of the net.
Carmona were unable to mount pressure and succumbed to the might of Navelim Villagers.
