MAPUSA: Saligao MLA Jayesh Sagaonkar has called for reshuffling valve operators and supervisors handling water supply to Reis Magos, Nerul and Pilerne for allegedly diverting water.
Salgaonkar said, “We had a joint meeting with the WRD, PWD and Electricity Department wherein the officials claimed that there is 24 hours water supply in Bardez taluka and electricity has no much role to play in shortage of water. However, Reis Magos, Nerul and parts of Pilern face water issue throughout the year. People receive water on alternate days sometimes only twice a week.”
“There are four water tanks as well as groundwater sumps. However, these tanks don’t get filled up even to 25 per cent of their capacity, due to the diversion of water. The valve operators and supervisors manipulate and divert water from these parts. The government needs to reshuffle these valve operators and supervisors as well as the JE (Junior Engineer) and AE (Assistant Engineer),” Salgaonkar added.
The former minister also criticised the State government for not being able to handle ‘valve operators and supervisors who manipulate with water supply’.
Meanwhile, locals informed that PWD has assured to supply water from the pipeline coming from Candolim Bridge, reserved for Nerul, and solve the water issue in this area within 15 days.
