These clubs provided facilities for seafarers and their families, but now they are almost on the brink of collapse as builders attempt to seize these residential clubs. D’Costa urged the government to take measures to preserve and safeguard these heritage homes.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured D’Costa that the State government is willing to assist seafarers staying in ‘kudds’ called ‘Goykaranchi Kudd,’ provided there is a mutual agreement between them and the Maharashtra government. He emphasised that the State government cannot invest in private properties. The Chief Minister informed the House that a delegation of seafarers had met him regarding this issue.
