MARGAO: Royston Pereira scored a brace as Candolim Sports Club registered a 3-1 victory over St Savio Sports Club, Calangute to enter the final of the Mc Dowell’s N0.1 Yaari Premier Cup inter-village football tournament, organized by Agassaim Youth Club, at Agassaim ground, on Friday. Candolim SC led 3-0 at the breather.
Candolim SC started off with a brilliant flourish as striker Royston put them ahead in the 10th minute. Nine minutes later, Royston doubled the lead as St Savio SC’s Raju Naik brought down the rival striker inside the penalty box and Royston converted the resultant spot-kick.
St Savio SC got into attacking mode and midway in the opening session, Ashlon Lobo unleashed a snap shot but Candolim goalkeeper Krishna Bandodkar came to his sides rescue.
Candolim SC continued to attack and in the 30th minute, Royston’s well executed free-kick was headed by Joelif towards Sigmund Silveira, who connected in style to make it 3-0.
Post resumption, Candolim SC slackened their pace and allowed their opponents to control the proceedings and Ashlon Lobo scored a consolation goal, 3-1.
