VALPOI: The Valpoi Municipal Council chairperson and councillors have slammed the Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) over the “unjust” reservation of wards for the municipality polls.
With their wards now reserved, chairperson Sharafat Khan (Ward 6), Vice-Chairperson Dharmendra Salunke (Ward 9), councillors Shaikh Idrus (Ward 5) and Prakash Gawas (Ward 4) will not be able to contest the election.
Salunke, whose ward has been reserved for OBC women, criticized the reservation as the OBC community was a minority in his ward. He called it injustice to the other voters and added, “It is a political game to restrain me from contesting the election.”
Gawas, whose ward has been reserved for OBCs, slammed the DMA and claimed that only four houses in the ward belong to the OBC community.
The wards of Sharafat and Shaikh have been reserved for reserved for women.
