PANJIM: The alleged irregularities in the River Navigation Department (RND) prompted the government to call for reports from the concerned authorities to determine the facts.
Sources informed Herald that Secretary (RND) P S Reddy summoned a meeting of his officers at the Secretariat on Thursday to determine the facts over alleged scam in the toll fee collection, missing tickets and overpayment to flotilla staff.
It is learnt that the Secretary has called for the data from the department, based on which the government will decide the future course of action.
Herald, in its editions on Wednesday and Thursday, reported of irregularities within the department that has caused a loss of several lakhs of rupees to the government. The auditing of the functioning in the department has so far exposed misappropriation of around Rs 36.63 lakh towards toll fees, while several lakhs have allegedly been paid to nearly 130 employees, who have been on unauthorised leaves.
