MARGAO:Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribes of Goa has expressed shock at the conditions of many tribal villages in Canacona that lack basic amenities, and criticised Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar for this. “Recently, Mission had launched ‘Chalo Canacona Campaign’ and held meetings in 20 villages of Canacona which is the Constituency of Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, who also belongs to the ST Community,” said Rupesh Velip, Secretary of the NGO.
“During this Campaign, the Mission team was shocked to know that many villages like Avali, Nadkem, Ponsulemoll, Keri, Tirwal, Vavurla, etc, in Canacona taluka do not have motorable roads. The villagers and their school going children are facing hardship due to lack of basic amenities such as potable water, schools, electricity, toilets, health facilities, mobile network, etc. In some villages, people do not have access to emergency services due to lack of roads,” said Velip.

“During medical emergencies, there is no other option than hoisting the patient on a chair and carry them to hospital on foot, walking for hours. Many have lost their lives, there are cases where pregnant women have delivered on the road on the way to hospital. Surprisingly, these issues have never been highlighted or discussed in the Goa Assembly,” Velip added.
