PANJIM: Criticizing the statement of the Deputy Chief Minister of Goa, Francis D’Souza, the Catholic Association of Goa has called him a “Quirk – a Hindu-Christian” saying that no such species exists in this world today.
Stating that his ancestors were Hindus like mine and were later converted to Christianity, some 450 to 500 years ago, Brig Ian da Costa, spokesperson, Catholic Association of Goa, said, “We, their heirs are now Christians. We can surely be called ‘Indian Christians’. When one does not know what one is talking about, then it is better to remain silent. In this way we can at least conceal our ignorance.”
“Poor Francis D’Souza, now the whole world is laughing at him. Couldn’t he have avoided all this by keeping his mouth closed? He has added insult to injury by saying in his so-called apology that, ‘I apologise, if I have hurt someone’s feelings,’” a press communiqué by the association says. “We have all lived in harmony and peace for hundreds of years. It is now not possible to turn the clock back, even if you are King Kong or King Momo. So please do not try it,” Brig da Costa chided.
“In this case the Deputy CM planned the event, but it totally flopped. He said sorry and added that he apologises, ‘If it has hurt somebody’. If? Does he still doubt that? It is still hurting badly deep down inside. But still we will say, ‘Father, forgive him for he knows not what he says,’” said the Catholic Association of Goa statement.
