In an order issued on Friday, the district administration exercising powers conferred under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 withdrew the ban on the movement and transportation of all types of iron ore laden vehicles within the jurisdiction of the North and South Goa district.
The office of the district magistrates had sought the government’s approval for withdrawing/revoking the ban on the movement and transportation of iron ore in the district after the State government revoked the temporary suspension of mining operations in January this year.
The Supreme Court had lifted its ban on April 21, 2014, which had been imposed in October 2012. However, pending revocation of suspension of environment clearances (ECs) from the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF), mining operations continued to remain suspended.
