MARGAO: A special gram sabha of Loliem Panchayat almost unanimously resolved to protect and preserve all plateaus in their panchayat areas. The plateaus named Bhagwati Moll, Tanshi, Kupa, Vaturem, Dapot and Maddi Tolop. The IIT is earmarked to be built on Bhagwati Moll.
The sabha was called for by an application signed by over 500 villagers demanding to discuss agriculture, animal husbandry, water resources, rural housing, forest resources and community assets of the village.
The decisions on each of the six issues, according to Citizens of Loliem Committee, and the resolutions were adopted by 460 members with only 4 dissenting.
The meeting was presided over by sarpanch Bhushan Prabhu Gaonkar and 8 out of 9 panch members were present.
Denis Fernandes of CLC said, “The gram sabha members discussed and resolved that all the plateaus of Loliem village, especially Bhagwati Moll, Tanshi, Kupa, Vaturem, Dapot and Maddi Tolop, be strictly conserved and protected for the conservation and development of agriculture and grazing lands and for the survival of our future generations.”
“The members discussed rural housing and distribution of house sites. The villagers observed that the village has very little land available for housing of residents, which are under severe threat due to speculative real estate and other construction projects for short term profits and resolved that no real estate or other construction projects be allowed on these plateaus at any cost,” CLC said.
The sabha resolved to conserve the water resources of the village.
