No more unauthorised overhead cables in Margao

The MMC launched a drive to clear these cables after giving the cable operators time to remove them

Margao: Even as Margao Municipal Council launched a drive to clear unauthorized overhead cables which were an eyesore, aggrieved cable operators from Margao and surrounding areas sought some more time to remove their cables.
Although the cable operators came to the municipal building to meet the Chief Officer yesterday they could not meet him as he was not in the office and had to give their representation in the office.
Chief Officer Siddhivinayak Naik while pointing out that he waited for two months for the cable operators and others to respond to the public notice issued by the MMC about removing the unauthorized overhead cables said he will go through the representation.
“My action against the eyesores will continue because they were given sufficient time to respond and have responded only now because we have acted” he said ultimately it was for the elected council to decide on the matter.
It appears that people respond only when stringent action is taken that affects them as the cable operators have responded only after some cables were cut. At the Municipal Office too it was only after the council sealed the offices of finance company Chola Mangalam that the company officials paid the taxes and cleared the matter.
The company officials could not produce the original property document and kept giving the excuse they could not find the original. However, after the office was sealed in the morning, by afternoon the document was mysteriously found and presented to the council.
Siddhivinayak Naik said it was because of this attitude of people taking the council for granted and not expecting it to take stringent action that things were slacking and said he was determined to improve the revenue status of the council.
