MARCEL, JULY 7
Taking cognizance of media reports, the Electricity Department at Ponda has directed Curti-Khandepar Panchayat not to issue occupancy certificate to the nine bungalows constructed in close vicinity of high tension line in its jurisdiction.
According to sources, the nine bungalows are in close proximity to the 33 KV line and the builder has grossly violated safety rules as the pole support cable passes through the balcony of one of the bungalows.
“It was the responsibility of the panchayat to contact the electricity department as construction in close proximity to high tension line is violation of the rules,” Executive Engineer R M Ashrit told Herald.
“We have written to the Curti-Khandepar Panchayat not to issue occupancy certificate as it is dangerous for human life. Construction in close proximity is also violation of rules,” said Ashrit.
“Though it does not amount to criminal offence, but as a primary measure, we have asked the panchayat not to issue occupancy certificate unless the line is shifted,” he added.
Ashrit further informed that the builder had submitted an application for shifting the HTL and is under consideration, provided the builder foots the expenditure and should also identify the place.
“Shifting of line (150 mtrs) will cost about Rs 6 to 7 lakh, while underground cabling will cost about Rs 30 to 35 lakh. It is advisable to go for underground cabling due to lack of availability of space, as on both the sides, there are residencies,” he said.
Ashrit said the HTL line connects to Marcaim Sub-station and supply power to Marcaim and Kundaim Industrial Estate and even residences.
The line further goes to the Ribandar Sub-station and acts as stand power supply to Panjim.
