PANJIM: Former international footballer Brahmanand Shankhwalkar and Sadguru Brahmeshanand Swami of Kundaim Tapobhoomi are among 107 individuals, who have been named for the Padma Shri awards for their distinguished service in their respective fields.
Shankhwalkar got the award for his contribution in the field of sports while, Brahmeshanand Swami has been given the Padma Shri for spiritualism.
The Government of India on Tuesday released a list of the Padma awardees, one of the highest civilians Awards of the country ahead of India’s 73rd Republic Day.
Among the awardees are General Bipin Rawat, India’s first Chief of Defence Staff who was killed last year in a helicopter crash, vaccine makers Krishna Ella, Suchitra Ella, Cyrus Poonawalla, opposition politicians Ghulam Nabi Azad, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, and Indian-origin Silicon Valley titans Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai.
The list comprises 4 Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan and 107 Padma Shri awards. These awards will be conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions to be held at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi around March/April.
