PMC warns 44 banks over arrears

PONDA:  Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) Chairperson Pradeep Naik has informed that around 44 banks operating in the town have not cleared their tax arrears amounting to around Rs 62.67 lakh for the past many years.
The PMC had warned the banks that their premises would be sealed if they fail to pay tax arrears. Fearing the stern action, around 10 banks approached the local civic body to clear their pending dues.
Naik said there are many banks which are yet to clear their dues which amount to lakhs of rupees.
He said PMC had sent several reminders and had even issued show cause notices to them.
In June, PMC had issued notices to 44 banks over non-payment of Rs 62.66 lakh towards trade licences fees, signboards and house tax fees.
