MARGAO: A fake passport racket using Goan identity and documents has come to light recently when a lady from Navelim sought to renew her passport.
The lady from Navelim on realizing that her passport was due to expire, she submitted the same to the Passport Office at Panjim for renewal. She was shocked to be informed by the passport officials that records show that she had already been issued the passport.
Apparently, someone using the lady’s documents such as birth certificate and address got another passport with a different photograph and this passport was issued in the passport office at Ahmedabad.
Unfortunately, when the lady went to the police station to lodge her complaint, the Police Inspector C Patil advised her to follow up the matter with the passport office and get the passport officer to intimate the CID to investigate into the matter.
Apparently, this is not the only case which has been reported at the Panjim Passport Office, there are many others facing the same problem, the lady said.
