PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar Wednesday said that if required government would consider providing compensation to the farmers, for protecting surface rights of the areas, which are affected due to mining.
Parrikar said that a proposal will have to be moved to the revenue department and accordingly under Land Revenue Code, we can decide rates for compensating the farmers.
The issue was raised during Question Hour by BJP MLA Pramod Sawant.
The State government in 2011 via a circular had asked all mine owners in the State to possibly acquire land adjacent to their leases. The guidelines adopted from Union Ministry of Mines Safety, say that the companies should purchase the surface rights of the area, which is likely to be affected with their activities.
