MARGAO: Following a surge in thefts and robbery attempts in Aquem-Margao, anxious residents are calling for increased police patrols in the area.

Locals report that around ten apartments have been targeted by robbers, with CCTV footage capturing images of the gang attempting to break into homes. This footage has provided crucial evidence for the ongoing investigation. However, residents have criticised the police for not taking these incidents seriously enough, fearing that the same gang may strike again if immediate action is not taken.
Denzil Tavares, a local resident, lodged a complaint with the police after a gang of thieves attempted to break into his home on August 24. He recounted how he was alerted by the sound of his door being forcefully banged twice. Upon inspection, he discovered that the door frame had been damaged. Concerned for his safety, Tavares contacted the Margao police at around 3.50 am, to report the incident.
Tavares, along with other worried residents, has formally requested that the police enhance their vigilance and increase patrolling in the area. Despite these incidents, some residents expressed frustration, claiming that the police have not yet taken sufficient steps to establish a stronger presence in the community. They are particularly concerned that the gang may be experimenting with different types of locks, potentially leading to more severe incidents in the future as the criminals become more adept at breaching security measures.
In response to these concerns, the Margao Town Police Station has reported that they have already increased the number of police patrols in the affected area, as well as in several other locations. The police also confirmed that they are investigating the attempted robberies and are reviewing the CCTV footage provided by residents. This footage is being used to identify the suspects and analyse their methods, they said.
