PANJIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Sunday assured Goa Association of Resident Doctors (GARD) that the government will solve all their issues and deploy additional police personnel to safeguards doctors and staff working in the COVID hospitals.
Rane met GARD delegation after the latter wrote a letter to the GMC Dean regarding availability of oxygen, preferential treatment to VIP patients and to ensure their safety by enhancing security in COVID Hospitals.

After listening to GARD delegation, Rane said, “We have assured them that the government will provide total support and we will overcome all the issues together as a team. We are working unabated to provide the required facilities to fight this pandemic”.
“GARD has been our backbone in this fight against Covid-19.
During our interaction, we took suggestions from them and also assured them that all their issues will be resolved at the earliest. The government will provide support to them in resolving their issues as their concerns were valid.
We will be in touch with the association from time to time,” he said.
“We cannot function without them (doctors). We have to respect them. They are working day and night to save lives,” he said adding that additional police personnel will be deployed in and around COVID hospitals. He said that the doctors were doing their best to save the patients and appealed to the patients’ relatives and people not to abuse and attack doctors.
Stating that the government has always seriously acknowledged the issues raised by GARD, Rane said that he will try to settle their issues including granting of permanent registration to those who had completed their one-year internship and employed as medical officers.
According to Rane, there are as many as 700 COVID-infected patients undergoing treatment in the GMC and doctors are doing their best to save them. The State of Goa salutes them for their selfless efforts and dedication in serving the citizens during this unprecedented time, he said.
The GARD president Dr Pratik Savant also urged the Minister to give incentives to doctors working in COVID Hospitals by giving them some marks or benefits during NEET exams.
