MAPUSA: Calangute Police on Saturday arrested 22-year-old Ugandan national Minamu Hafusa in connection with the alleged murder of Aldona resident Jefrino Barreto.
According to a police official, Hafusa was arrested from the Anjuna area. “The accused is from Uganda and is here on a tourist visa. We have arrested her for killing Barreto,” Calangute PI Nolasco Raposo informed.
Another official said Barretto was done to death and Hafusa was arrested after investigations revealed that the deceased was last seen with her.
It may be recalled that in the wee hours of Friday, police found a body of an unknown person, 100
metres away from Chandrakant Cottages at Baga.
During the panchanama, the police identified the body to be of Jefrino Barreto, who was working as a waiter at a hotel in Guirim.
It is learnt that the incident took place at around 3 am on Friday, when Barreto reportedly met the foreigner at Baga.
Reports indicated that Barreto and the female foreigner had an altercation regarding payment of money which the Aldona resident owed her.
Sources informed that both were involved in selling drugs and the foreigner reportedly smashed Barreto’s head with a stone during the altercation which resulted into his instant death.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family claimed that Jefrino was not involved in drugs or any other illegal activities.
Calangute police are further investigating the case.
