MARGAO: Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has asked the government to pull up its sock to combat the surge of the second wave of COVID-19 in the State which has commenced since the beginning of this month and the death toll due to the virus has reached 840.

He lamented that as there is a shortage of the vaccine, health centres in Maharashtra, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have been closed down while in neighbouring Pune there are shortages of ICUs and ventilators and pointed out that even 400-bed hospitals in Pune are filled to capacity.
He appealed to the government to ensure that there are enough beds and ventilators in the State to deal with the second wave of the pandemic which is yet to reach its peak in the State.
