At a meeting held at Chandor, the villagers raised the issue of garbage management and the deputy sarpanch Marcelo Fernandes assured that the panchayat had taken cognizance of the matter and were acting on it.
Fernandes also promised the villagers that they would see development in the next six months as several key projects were being taken up with the government. Panchayat officials stated that they were consulting Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik about the same about the slow pace of planned works in the villages with the aim of expediting the projects.
The villagers also highlighted their concerns about the proposed railway overbridge and feared that once it was completed it would just lead to heavy vehicular traffic in the village and elucidated their worries about the consequences of having increased traffic on their village roads and peaceful village. Fernandes however explained that the overbridge was in the jurisdiction of the Guirdolim village, the neighbouring village.
Furthermore on the other aspect of jurisdiction, Fernandes replying to the villagers demand for immediate testing of quality of the water in the village water bodies, stated that matter came under the Chandor comunidade and that the comunidade has not given NOC under the comunidade code.
However, the panchayat agreed to the ideas proposed by the villagers and assured that they would write to the water resources department conveying their sentiment and apprehensions.
The villagers had earlier articulated their view that some of the water bodies were in government owned land and thus it was possible to test the water and carrying out the requisite classification.
The villagers had demanded to know if the water from the water bodies is suitable for drinking and irrigation purposes and for that had demanded that classification of the water be done during the testing process to evaluate the quality of the water.
