NAVELIM: Residents of Navelim in Salcete taluka on Wednesday faced hardship due to the sudden rupture in the main PWD water pipeline at Nagmoddem-Navelim that supplies water to the entire village.

Navelim resident and social activist Siddharth Karapurkar claimed that he had learnt of the breakdown in the main water supply pipeline when he started receiving muddy water that he could neither consume nor wash his clothes or utensils but throw it away.
Aam Admi Party (AAP) Zilla Panchayat candidate Mathilda Silva from Belem ward expressed her ire at the frequent water scarcity problems.
She said, “Water is an essential commodity and one needs water to cook, wash vessels, flush the toilets, etc. After a tiring day at work, it’s very frustrating to come home and discover that there is no water in the main pipeline. Now since I have a well, I do not suffer but I have empathy for those who undergo hardships due to water scarcity issues especially my neighbours, who come to my home to draw water from my well.”
A Dongorim-Navelim resident said the PWD officials had informed him that they were presently working to rectify the damaged pipeline on the Sinquetim-Navelim stretch and that the water supply would be restored either late Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning.
George Barretto from Sinquetim ward said, “The PWD personnel had informed him there would be restricted water supply for two days.”
