A teenaged girl was seriously injured, after she was knocked down by a truck at Nagoa-Arpora on Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports, the girl sustained multiple injuries on her head and was rushed to a nearby hospital at Mapusa in a critical state.
According to sources, the truck driver tried to save the girl, but could do nothing. Saligao ZP member Michael Lobo, who was at the accident site, informed Herald about the urgent need of putting up either speed breakers of rumblers at the accident-prone site.
“The site has become an accident-prone zone, particularly the dead ends near the Shirodker Bar, posing a serious threat to life and property. The vehicles have been proceeding at a break-neck speed on the road leading to Calangute-Mapusa,” he said.
“The speed breakers at the dead ends, especially the dangerous turn, could bring some solace to the residents of the area and the motorists,” added Lobo.
“I have personally decided to take up the matter on priority basis with the Traffic Cell and other government departments to put up rumblers or speed breakers at the two sites, one near the Shirodker Bar dead ends and at the four-cross roads near Nagoa-Arpora Church,” he said.
“The speed breakers are put up on the road ends of Saligao and Arpora, but the Parra and Calangute ends do not have such speed breakers and accidents occur on regular basis,” he added.
