PANJIM: The University College Teachers’ Association, Goa (UCTAG) has sought intervention of Goa Governor and University Chancellor PS Sreedharan Pillai for necessary directions to ensure that every college Principal teach atleast two subjects to their students.
UCTAG in their memorandum submitted to the Governor has pointed out that as per University Grants Commission (UGC) Regulations, college principals are required to engage at least eight lectures per week in their respective institutions.

The Association said that principals, who are highly paid basically as a teacher with additional remuneration especially for administrative work, and their experience, qualification and skill could be advantageous to the students.
They said that currently Principals are not taking any lectures, whereas the assistant professors, associate professors, professors and even Dean of faculties are taking their full quota of lectures as per UCG rule.
Association general secretary Roy Gomes said that despite not into teaching, Principals are awarded with ‘Best Teacher Awards’ by the State Government, which is a sheer mockery of Higher Education System in Goa.
The Association alleged that some Principals are busy doing business, involved in politics and other non academic activities. “It is a disgrace indeed to get the ‘Best Teacher Award’ when they are not teaching. It is high time that they need to prove their worth by maintaining a log book, recording the work they have done on each day in the college. It is utmost important that the Principals are assessed,” Gomes said.
