PANJIM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa Observatory has advised people to abstain from outdoor activities in the next four days as State is put on Orange alert with heavy rainfall warning till October 25.
IMD in an advisory issued has warned of heavy rainfall due to development of low pressure area in Arabian Sea with the associated cyclonic circulation.
Fishermen are also advised not to venture into sea during the period.
MD has said that a low pressure area over east-central Arabian Sea with associated cyclonic circulation has developed, which is likely to become low pressure belt during next 24 hours.
“Widespread moderate rainfall activity with heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places is likely to occur over Goa from October 23 to 25,” it said.
While yellow warning is given for October 22, Orange alert will come into force from October 23.
Several parts of the State received heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds on Monday.
State has received 55 percent surplus post-monsoon showers. From October 1 to October 20, State has recorded 198.4 mm of post monsoon rains as against the average 130.9mm.
State had recorded 33 percent surplus rains during the four-month long monsoon season.
