mapusa: News of the preliminary COVID reports of a family residing in Verla Canca spread panic in the village. Three out of five members of a family that had arrived from Mumbai recently had tested positive via Trunet but were later confirmed to be negative.
However, as soon as the initial news broke out, locals had immediately gathered outside the building and blocked the road and restricted people from moving in or out. The Panch member informed the people to stay inside their houses and police were present till midnight.
Village Sarpanch Milton Marques appealed to the public not to panic. “Once the news came in, the family was immediately traced and sent to COVID hospital. People need not panic since this was suspected to be an imported case and is not community transmission”.
