WHY GOVT IS NOT IMPLEMENTING THE BILL IF THE OPPOSITION IS READY TO BACK: PROF KAMAT

Senior academic Professor Manoj Kamat said in the latest episode of Herald TV’s Point Counterpoint debate series that there is no logic behind this political game of introducing the Women’s Reservation Bill without having any plans for its implementation.

Kamat said that this bill was introduced back in 1987–88 by the Congress and also by the UPA government. And this is not the first year the BJP government has enjoyed a majority; they have been enjoying it since 2014. So in all senses, this move does not make any difference because the government is talking about the bill without talking about its implementation.

He further said that the issue is: if the government has the majority and the opposition is also ready to back the bill, why is the government backing out? Professor Kamat was speaking on the topic: Women’s Reservation Bill, Cake, or Political Carrot?
