IM Anurag gets second GM norm

PANJIM: IM Anurag Mhamal secured his second Grand Master norm at the recently concluded 32nd International Open Cappelle-la-Grande Chess tournament, in Paris, France.

He scored seven points from nine rounds with six wins and two draws. Apart from defeating three other players, Anurag defeated IM Kanarek Marcel 2533 of Poland, GM Vishnu Prasanna 2526 of India, GM Abijit Gupta 2613 of India and drew with GM Jusspow Artur 2578 of Germany and GM Danin Alexandre 2570 of Russia.
Overall, he finished fourth on tie-break ahead of Indian GM’s Sasikiran (7th), GM GN Gopal (9th), GM Abhijit Gupta (16th) and GM Lalit Babu (19th). He was the only IM to finish fourth among first 19 players. His rating performance was 2648 which is well ahead of the required 2600 rating performance for GM norm.
