PANJIM: Goa’s defender and Churchill Bros FC captain, Michel M Castanha, has been selected for the India women’s national football team which will play two international football matches in Hong Kong and Indonesia in January.
Michel, who hails from Curtorim, is the lone Goa women footballer among the 25 players selected for India to play in Hong Kong on January 21 and 23 and in Indonesia on January 27 and 30.
The Goa Football Association (GFA) congratulated Michel for keeping Goa’s flag flying high and reiterated their full support so that she could cement her place in the National squad in the years to come. GFA President, Churchill Alemao and the Executive Committee hailed Michel for making it to the National squad. Churchill highlighted that Michel had always been sincere, dedicated and passionate, working very hard in pursuit of her career and that it was through sheer determination and passion coupled with sacrifice and perseverance that she could make it to the top. She has done Goa and all Goans very proud, he added.
Carol Gomes, chairperson of GFA”s Women’s Committee and its members also hailed Michel’s achievement which is a feather for the women’s football in the State. This success comes after along gap and will surely be a positive catalyst for the upliftment of women’s football in Goa, she added.
