MARGAO: The meeting of the South Goa Zilla Panchayat (SGZP) held on Thursday saw heated discussions with some ZP members expressing their anger over pending projects in their respective constituencies.
The discussions revolved around why these works had been delayed in comparison to other projects being expedited in other constituencies.
While there were calls to blacklist contractors who are also creating delays or not doing the work properly, the former SGZP Chairperson and Vice Chairperson were quick to defend actions taken during their tenure.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, the new SGZP Chairperson Sanjana Velip and Vice Chairperson Siddharth Dessai also rejected allegations about any favouritism and pointed out that some of the delays were due to technical issues, wherein ZP members from the BJP party were also affected.
This was in response to allegations that Opposition’s constituencies were neglected.
Velip and Dessai explained that for the first time, to avail funds from the 15th Finance Commission, had a new procedure and only those project proposals which had been uploaded correctly had been cleared while there was a hold up with those that were not uploaded correctly.
The duo added that the SGZP will prioritise not only such stalled projects but also the pending work of all SGZP members.
Responding to a query, Dessai added that there has been progress yet with the SGZP proposal for constructing a SGZP Bhavan in South Goa but that they plan to follow up on this matter with the Chief Minister soon.
