PANJIM: Ambelim Sports Club defeated Ave Maria Athletic and Welfare Club 2-1, in the Goa Football Association’s U-16 League match played at Ambelim ground, on Tuesday.
Godfrey Crasto (8′) and Flinton Fernandes (26′) scored a goal each for the winners while Keegan Fernandes (43′) pulled a goal back for Ave Maria AWC.
Ambelim SC started on an attacking note as the Ave Maria AWC side tried to adjust to the pitch, the home side taking advantage the situation soon found the breakthrough in the 8th minute as Godfrey Crastoy brilliantly dribbled past a couple of defenders and slotted home the opening goal.
It was in the 26th minute that Ave Maria AWC were caught out as Ambelim attacked through a counter and managed to double their goal lead as Flinton Fernandes made an easy finish.
Post resumption, Ambelim SC resorted to defensive play while Ave Maria AWC continued their attacking format and were able to pull a goal back in the 43rd minute as Keegan Fernandes scored for the away side.
In another match at Betalbatim ground, Salgaocar Football Club blanked Betalbatim Sports Club 3-0.
In the second half, Meldon Oliveira scored the first goal for the Green Brigade in the 50th minute while soon in the 57th minute Kenneth made it 2-0 and Jobern Cardozo made it 3-0 in the 67th minute.
