VASCO: Number of Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) and Smoking and Spitting Act violation cases seems to be on the rise.
In Vasco around 2,393 COTPA cases and 518 smoking and spitting cases have been booked till the month of May. Verna has 238 COTPA cases and 430 cases of smoking and spitting in public.
Police informed that in January 736 cases, February 348, March 258, April 365 and in May 686 cases under COTPA Act has been booked in the Vasco police jurisdiction.
In Smoking and Spitting Act, in January five cases, February 143, March 196, April 150 and in May 24 cases under this Act have been booked and fined in Vasco.
In Verna police jurisdiction, under COTPA Act, in January 30, February 50, March 15, April 79 and in May 64 cases have been booked.
Under Smoking and Spitting Act, Verna police five cases in January, February 129, March 70, April 69 and in May month 157 cases have been booked.
When contacted Verna PI Sandesh Chodankar informed that the police do their work of identifying the violators of the Acts and impose fine to deter people from using tobacco products, spitting and smoking in public.
