Panic gripped North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa, on Tuesday when a foetus was discovered abandoned inside the facility. According to hospital sources, the incident unfolded around noon. A pregnant woman had arrived at the hospital seeking treatment. She was given a tablet by a doctor and asked to wait. Minutes later, she went to the toilet — and that’s where the foetus was recovered, spark ing chaos across the hospital. By the time staff realised what had happened, the woman had fled the premises. CCTV footage reportedly captured her movements and authori ties are now reviewing it to trace her whereabouts. The Mapusa police were alerted immediately. The foetus was sent for a post-mortem examina tion, while investigations continue into the cir cumstances surrounding the shocking incident. Officials have described the case as ‘disturb ing’, emphasising the urgent need to uncover how such a tragedy could occur inside a hospital setting.
