The Karbotkar families of Mayem, who had threatened to boycott the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections, have decided to postpone their protest following assurances from Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant.
The families had earlier expressed strong dissatisfaction over the government’s delay in adding their names to the Mahajan list of the local Devasthan Committee, despite securing favourable verdicts in all courts—from Goa to Delhi. They argued that the prolonged inaction had left them with no choice but to consider boycotting the polls.

Taking serious note of the issue, Maye MLA Premendra Shet and North Goa District BJP President Dayanand Karbotkar facilitated a meeting between the affected Mahajans and the Chief Minister. During the discussions, Sawant assured them that the pending matter would be resolved soon. He further committed to expediting the process by consulting the Advocate General and the Revenue Secretary in the first week of January, once the election procedures conclude.
With these assurances in place, the Karbotkar families have temporarily withdrawn their call for an election boycott. Further action will depend on the government’s progress in resolving the long-pending Mahajan list issue.
