A major road accident involving a four-wheeler car and a motorcycle was reported on the Mapusa–Siolim road, leaving two persons with serious injuries. The incident occurred when a motorcycle carrying a rider and his pillion partner was travelling from Mapusa towards Siolim, while a car was approaching from the opposite direction.
According to locals, the four-wheeler allegedly came from the wrong side of the road and rammed into the motorcycle head-on. Both the bike rider and the pillion rider sustained severe injuries in the impact. Witnesses further alleged that the car driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
Local residents immediately alerted the 108 emergency ambulance service, which rushed to the spot and shifted both injured persons to the Mapusa District Hospital for treatment. Owing to the seriousness of his injuries, the bike rider was later referred to the Goa Medical College (GMC) for further medical care.
After the collision, the car driver allegedly fled from the accident scene. Mapusa police personnel reached the spot soon after the incident and informed Anjuna police, as the accident site falls under Anjuna police station jurisdiction. Anjuna police later arrived at the scene, where a panchnama was being conducted.
Both the car and the motorcycle were completely damaged in the accident. Police have begun further investigation and efforts are underway to trace the absconding car driver.
