Shubman Gill Omitted as BCCI Names India Squad for T20 World Cup, Axar Patel Named Vice-Captain

The BCCI on Tuesday announced India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2026, marking the first official step in the team’s title defence. The selection panel, led by Ajit Agarkar, met at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium before briefing the media on the chosen combination. The same squad will feature in the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand in January.

In a big selection call, Shubman Gill was omitted as the BCCI unveiled India’s squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup. The selectors also confirmed Axar Patel as vice-captain, underlining India’s intent to back experience and all-round depth as they chase back-to-back world titles on home soil and in Sri Lanka.
