RAIA: Ganacona Sports and Cultural Club booked a place in the final of the UCT Trophy inter-village football tournament after defeating St Sebastian Youth Club, Murida Fatorda, 7-6 in a tie-breaker at the Government Primary School ground, Telaulim. The tournament is organised by United Club of Telaulim.
Murida Fatorda led 2-0 at half-time, with Richie Vaz scoring in the 2nd minute and Hansulum Furtado adding another in the 10th minute. Canacona staged a second-half comeback, pulling one back through Chaitan Komparant in the 33rd minute before Terrance Lobo equalised in the 38th minute to force penalties.
In the tie-breaker, Canacona converted through Ronaldo Oliveira, Yamunsab Pinjar, Shawne Alfonso, Terence Lobo and American Bartetto. Murida Fatorda’s scorers were Rahul Sharma, Hansulum Furtado and Alfred Noronha.
Terrance Lobo of Canacona was awarded man-of-the-match from Lister Ferrao, chairman of United Club of Telaulim.
