FC Goa stun Salgaocar as Dempo, Sesa FA also record victories

MAPUSA: FC Goa played their hearts out to register a fluent 3-1 victory over Clube de Salgaocar in the Reliance Foundation Development League U-21 match, played at the Duler Stadium, on Wednesday.
FC Goa made an early statement, taking the lead in the 5th minute through Asher Rodrigues. The Young Gaurs continued to press and were rewarded in the 24th minute when Mervin Fernandes doubled the advantage to give his side firm control of the contest.
After the change of ends, FC Goa further extended their dominance. Jovial Dias made it 3-0 in the 58th minute, effectively putting the result beyond doubt. Salgaocar managed a late response when Royson Colaco scored in the 89th minute, but it proved to be a mere consolation as FC Goa sealed a deserved 3-1 win.
In the morning match at the same venue, Dempo SC trounced Churchill Brothers FC by a comprehensive 5-0 margin. Dempo went into the breather with a commanding 3-0 lead.
Swavel Furtado opened the scoring in the 14th minute, while Murphy Fernandes struck a brace to put Dempo firmly in control before half-time. After the restart, Soham Nagvekar and Mevan Dias added two more goals to complete the rout.
Meanwhile, at the Guirim ground, Sesa Football Academy registered a fluent 3-1 win over Sporting Clube de Goa. The teams were locked in a goalless draw at half-time before Sesa FA stepped up their tempo in the second half.
Venito Costa broke the deadlock after the interval, while Likson Rebello and Velrose Dias added two more goals to seal the victory for Sesa FA. Anil Zore scored the lone goal for Sporting Clube de Goa.
